ಪಿರಿದೆಲ್ಲ ಮತನೀತಿಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಜೀವಿತವು ।
ನೆರೆಬಂದ ನದಿ ದಡಕೆ ಬಾಗಿ ಪರಿಯುವುದೇಂ? ॥
ಧರುಮಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮದ ತಿಳಿವೆ ಲೋಕಸೂತ್ರದ ಸುಳಿವು ।
ಅರಸು ಜೀವಿತ ಹಿತವ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೨೪ ॥
ಬದುಕು ಬದುಕಿನ ಎಲ್ಲ ಸೂತ್ರಗಳಿಗಿಂತ ಹಿರಿಯದು. ಉಕ್ಕಿ ಪ್ರವಾಹವಾಗಿ ಹರಿಯುವ ನದಿ, ದಡಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತದೇನು? ಧರ್ಮ ಸೂಕ್ಷ್ಮಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಬದುಕಿನ ಸೂತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ನಮಗೆ ಅರಿವಾಗಿಸಬೇಕು ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ನೀನು ಅವುಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಮೀರಿ ಬದುಕಿನ ಹಿತವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕು ಎಂದು ಒಂದು ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸುಳಿವು ಮತ್ತು ಒಂದು ಆದೇಶ ಎರಡನ್ನೂ ನೀಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ನಮಗೆ ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
To be alive is the strongest yardstick to measure our actions against. It trumps all other measure like religion and morality. Does a river having floods try to contain itself with in the banks (and attempt not to hurt the ones living on the banks)? Every situation calls for re-evaluation of our previously held standards of morality. The real code to live by is thus elusive and always changing. ಜಗ ಬೆಲೆದು ಚಿಗುರುತಿರೆ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ ಕರಟರಲಹುದೆ? ।
ನಿಗಮಸಂತತಿಗೆ ಸಂತತಿಯಾಗದಿಹುದೆ? ॥
ಬಗೆಬಗೆಯ ಜೀವಸತ್ತ್ವವಿಕಾಸವಾಗುತಿರ- ।
ಲೊಗೆವುದೈ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೨೫ ॥
ಜಗತ್ತೆಲ್ಲ ಬೆಳೆದು ಹೊಸ ವಿಚಾರಗಳು ಚಿಗುರುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಪೂರಕವಾದ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರವು ಸುರುಟಿಕೊಂಡಿರಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ? ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಆಯಾಮಗಳೂ ಸಹ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸ ವಿಚಾಗಳ ನೆಲೆಯಾಗಬೇಕು. ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿಯೂ ಹೊಸತಿನ ವಿಕಾಸವಾಗುತ್ತಿರಬೇಕಾದರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವೂ ವಿಕಾಸಗೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಮತ್ತು ಹಾಗೆ ವಿಕಾಸಗೊಂಡದ್ದರಿಂದ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನದ ಹೊಸ ಹೊಸ ವಿಚಾರಗಳು ಬೆಳಕಿಗೆ ಬರಬೇಕು ಎಂದು ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ನಿರಂತರ ನವೀನತೆಯ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
When the world is growing, the scriptures will also grow. Scriptures are considered to be created by God (The universal truth). Those scriptures will beget more others which will interpret and elaborate on the basic truth. As we find a variety of beings, so will be the scriptures. That is how science (one of the modern scriptures) is born. - Mankutimma

ಸೆರೆಬಿದ್ದು ಧರ್ಮಪಾದಪ ನಿಲದು ಮತಗಳಲಿ ।
ಜರೆಯಿಂದ ಬರಡಹುದು ಮಠದ ನೆರಳಿನಲಿ ॥
ಪರಸತ್ತ್ವರಸ ವಿಶ್ವಜೀವನದ ಬೇರ್ಗಳಿಂ ।
ನೆರೆಯಲಾ ತರು ಸೊಂಪು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೨೬ ॥
ಧರ್ಮವೆಂಬ ಮರ ಭಿನ್ನ ಭಿನ್ನ ಮತಗಳ ಆಧಾರದಮೇಲೆ ನಿಲ್ಲುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಮಠಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳು ಪ್ರತಿಪಾದಿಸುವ ಮತಗಳ ನೆರಳಿನಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೆ, ಧರ್ಮ ಸೊರಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಜನ ಜೀವನದ ಬದುಕಿನಲಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಸ್ಕಾರಗಳ ಬೇರುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪರತತ್ವದ, ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನ, ತತ್ವ ಮತ್ತು ಸತ್ವಗಳು ಆಳವಾಗಿ ಇಳಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಧರ್ಮವೆಂಬ ವೃಕ್ಷ ಮತ್ತೆ ಸಮೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದು ಸೊಂಪಾಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
The tree of Dharma (the moral code of life) will not stay hostage to any one sect. It does get weak if it takes shelter in any one of the sect's temples. Only when it accept freshness from the cosmic spirit through the roots of everyday life of the world (by not limiting itself to the temple) will the tree look prosperous. - Mankutimma

ಜೀವಕಾರಣಮೂಲ ಗೂಢವಾಗಿರ್ದೊಡಂ ।
ಧೀವಿಕಾಸದ ಬೆಳಕನಾದನಿತು ಗಳಿಸಿ ॥
ಕೈವಲ್ಯಪಥವನರಸುತ ಯಾತ್ರಿಸಲೆಬೇಕು ।
ದೀವಿಗೆಯು ಮತಿಯೊಂದೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೨೭ ॥
ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಮೂಲ ಕಾರಣವು ಗೂಢವಾಗಿರುವಾಗ, ಬುದ್ಧಿಯು ವೃದ್ಧಿಯಾಗುವಂತಹ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು ಪಾರಮಾರ್ಥದ ತತ್ವವನ್ನು ಅರಸುವ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಮಾಡಲೇಬೇಕು. ಕತ್ತಲಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳಕ ನೀಡುವ ದೀವಿಗೆ ಮತ್ತು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಅರಸುವ ಬುದ್ಧಿ ಎರಡೂ ಒಂದೇ ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
The source of life is mysterious and a divine secret. But we must strive to find it by enhancing our intellect as much as possible. We must find that path towards the realization. Our wisdom is the only light we have to do so. - Mankutimma [Translator's note: I think the stress is to find one's own light. It is not possible to know the secret, using other's light. You are free to light your lamp from the knowledgeable - But searching has to be done by you.

ಭಕ್ತಿ ನಂಬುಗೆ ಸುಲಭ, ಭಜನೆ ವಂದನೆ ಸುಲಭ ।
ತತ್ತ್ವ ಶೋಧನೆ ಕಷ್ಟ; ಮತಿಕಾರ್ಯ ಕಷ್ಟ ॥
ಸುತ್ತುವುದು ಗಿರಿಸುತ್ತ ಸುಳುವೆಂದು ಲೋಕಜನ ।
ಹತ್ತುವನು ತಾಪಸಿಯೊ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೫೨೮ ॥
ಭಕ್ತಿ, ಭಜನೆ, ಧ್ಯಾನಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವುದು ಸುಲಭದ ಕೆಲಸ. ಆದರೆ ಪರತತ್ವವನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕುವುದು ಮತ್ತು ಆ ಹುಡುಕುವುದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಡೆಸುವ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯ ಕಾರ್ಯ ಇನ್ನೂ ಕಷ್ಟತರವಾದದ್ದು. ಸುಲಭವೆಂದು ಬೆಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಸುತ್ತುತ್ತಾರೆ ಲೋಕದ ಜನ. ಆದರೆ ಹತ್ತಿ ಸಾಧಿಸುವವನೇ ತಾಪಸಿ ಎಂದು ಭಕ್ತಿ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಪರತತ್ವವನ್ನು ಅರಿಯುವ ಮಾರ್ಗವನ್ನು ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
It is easy to believe. It is easy to chant the God's name. It is difficult to understand the concept of God though. It is difficult to think and imagine him. While the general population go round and round a hill looking for clues, only the steadfast climb it to seek God. - Mankutimma
