ಹತ್ಯೆಯೋ ಹನ್ಯತೆಯೊ ವಿಜಯವೋ ಪರಿಭವವೊ ।
ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯಂ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಮಂ ಗಣಿಸುವನೆ ರಣದೊಳ್? ॥
ಕೃತ್ಯನಿರ್ಣಯ ಬಾಹ್ಯಲಾಭನಷ್ಟದಿನಲ್ಲ ।
ಆತ್ಮಋಣವದು ಜಗಕೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೬೨೪ ॥
ಕೊಲ್ಲುವುದೋ, ಕೊಲ್ಲಲ್ಪಡುವುದೋ, ಗೆಲುವೋ, ಸೋಲೋ ಎಲ್ಲದಕ್ಕೂ ಸಿದ್ಧನಾಗಿರುವ ಕ್ಷತ್ರಿಯ, ಯುದ್ಧದಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋರಾಡುವಾಗ ಅವುಗಳಾವುದನ್ನೂ ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವನ ಹೋರಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ಥಾನವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಹೋರಾಡುವುದಷ್ಟೇ ಅವನ ಅನನ್ಯ ಧರ್ಮವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನಾವು ಮಾಡಬೇಕಾದ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯದ ಕಾರಣ ಕೇವಲ ನಾವು ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿಗೆ ತೀರಿಸಬೇಕಾದ ಋಣವಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಲಾಭ ನಷ್ಟಗಳ ಲೆಕ್ಕಾಚಾರವಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
A soldier does not care for the result when he is on the battle field - killing or being killed, victory or defeat. He has no selfish agenda to be achieved during the war. His actions are not determined by calculations of profit or loss in the outside world. He is just repaying the debt of his soul to the world. We should approach life like that." - Mankutimma

ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಪ್ರಪಂಚವಿದು, ಸುಟ್ಟ ಕರಿ ನರಮನಸು ।
ಬಿಟ್ಟುಬಿಡಲರಿದದನು, ಕಟ್ಟಿಕೊಳೆ ಮಷ್ಟು ॥
ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ಮುಟ್ಟದವೋಲುಪಾಯದಿಂ ನೋಡದನು ।
ಗಟ್ಟಿ ಪುರುಳೇನಲ್ಲ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೬೨೫ ॥
ಈ ಪ್ರಪಂಚ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಪ್ರಪಂಚ. ಇಂತಹ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದಲ್ಲಿ ಮನವೆಲ್ಲ ಸುಟ್ಟು ಕರಕಲಾದರೂ ಇದನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ಬಿಡಲಾಗದೆ ಕೊಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ರಾಡಿಯನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾನೆ ಮನುಷ್ಯ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೂ ಇಲ್ಲದಹಾಗೆ ಉಪಾಯದಿಂದ ಬದುಕಬೇಕು. ಈ ಜಗತ್ತು ಬಿಡಲಾಗಲಾರದಂತಹ ಗಟ್ಟಿ ವಸ್ತುವೇನಲ್ಲ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
This is a bad world. By living in this world, man's mind has become dark like charcoal. But you can leave it alone by itself. The more you touch it, it more dirty you get. The right way to deal with it is to touch it - very lightly, as if you have not. There is nothing great in this art." - Mankutimma

ಕುಸುಮಸಖನೇಂ ನೀನು? ಹಿಸುಕದೆಯೆ ಮೂಸದನು ।
ಹಿಸುಕೆ ಕಟುಕಂಪು; ನರಲೋಕವದರವೋಲೇ ॥
ಗಸಿಯ ಕಲಕದೆ ಕೊಳದ ಮೇಲ್ತಿಳಿಯ ಕುಡಿದು ನಡೆ ।
ಹಸನು ಹಗುರದ ಬಾಳು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೬೨೬ ॥
ನೀನು ಕುಸುಮಗಳ ಮಿತ್ರನಾದರೆ ಅವುಗಳನ್ನು ಹಿಸುಕದೆ, ಕೇವಲ ಅವುಗಳ ಸುಗಂಧವನ್ನು ಮಾತ್ರ ಆಘ್ರಾಣಿಸು. ಹಿಸುಕಿದರೆ ಸುಗಂಧದ ಬದಲು ಕಡು ಕಮುಟು ವಾಸನೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ಜಗತ್ತೂ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ. ಬದುಕಿನ ಅಂತರಾಳದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾವಗಳ ಮತ್ತು ಅನುಭವಗಳ ರಾಡಿ ಅಡಗಿದೆ. ಅದನ್ನು ಕಲಕದೆ, ರಾದಿಯಿರುವ ಕೊಳದ ತಿಳಿ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕೊಳದ ತಿಳಿ ನೀರನ್ನು ಕುಡಿಯುವಂತೆ, ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತೀರ ಆಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿಯದೆ ಹಗುರವಾಗಿ ಹಸನಾದ ಬಾಳನ್ನು ಬಾಳು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
If you are a flowers you would know that you should smell them without holding them too tight. If you crush them, the fragrance turns into a stink. One must deal with this world like wise. Just like we should drink the clear water from the top of the lake without disturbing the sediment at the bottom, life is happy if dealt with lightly." - Mankutimma

ವಿಷಯಸನ್ನಿಧಿಗಿಂತ ಮಸಣಸನ್ನಿಧಿ ಲೇಸು ।
ವಿಷದೂಟಕಿಂತುಪೋಷಿತವೆ ಲೇಸಲ್ತೆ? ॥
ತೃಷೆ ಕನಲೆ, ಜೀವ ಬಿಸಿಬಾಣಲಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದ ಹುಳು ।
ಶಿಶು ಪಿಶಾಚಿಯ ಕೈಗೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೬೨೭ ॥
ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ವಿಷಯಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಯಾದ ಆಸಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಬದುಕುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮರಣವೇ ಉತ್ತಮ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ವಿಷದ ಊಟ ಮಾಡುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ, ಉಪವಾಸವಿರುವುದೇ ಉತ್ತಮ. ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಆಸೆಗಳು ಕೆರಳಿದರೆ ಜೀವ ಕಾದ ಬಾಣಲಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದ ಹುಳುವಿನಂತೆ ವಿಲವಿಲ ಒದ್ದಾಡುತ್ತದೆ, ಪಿಶಾಚಿಯ ಕೈಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕ ಶಿಶುವಿನಂತೆ, ಎಂದು ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವ ಹೇಗೆ ಒದ್ದಾಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
It is better to die than be attracted to the material pleasures in this world. Isn't being hungry better than consuming poisoned food? When a man is controlled by desire, he is like a worm that falls into a hot vessel. He is like a baby in the hands of a demon." - Mankutimma

ಋಣವ ತೀರಿಸಬೇಕು, ಋಣವ ತೀರಿಸಬೇಕು ।
ಋಣವ ತೀರಿಸುತ ಜಗದಾದಿಸತ್ತ್ವವನು ॥
ಜನದಿ ಕಾಣುತ್ತದರೊಳ್ ಒಂದುಗೂಡಲುಬೇಕು ।
ಮನೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಮಠ ನಿನಗೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೬೨೮ ॥
ನಾವು ಋಣವನ್ನು ತೀರಿಸಬೇಕು. ಆ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮ ಸತ್ವವನ್ನು ಎಲ್ಲರಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣುತ್ತ ಎಲ್ಲರೊಳಗೆ ಒಂದಾಗಿ ಬದುಕಬೇಕು. ಪಡೆದದ್ದನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಹಿಂತಿರುಗಿಸಿ ಸಾಲ ತೀರಿಸಬೇಕು. ಸಂಸಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದೇ ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ತೊರೆದು ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಯಾಗಬೇಕು. ಮನೆಯನ್ನೇ ಮಠವಾಗಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
One has to repay the debt to this world. There is no getting away. We have to repay debt by seeing the traces of universal cosmic spirit in every being of the world. We have to try to assimilate into the spirit (world). This is the religious goal that can achieved while we go about doing the everyday work of this world. Your own home is your temple." - Mankutimma
