ಮಂದಾಕ್ಷಿ ನಮಗಿಹುದು. ಬಲುದೂರ ಸಾಗದದು ।
ಸಂದೆ ಮಸಕಿನೊಳಿಹುದು ಜೀವನದ ಪಥವು ॥
ಒಂದುಮೆಟುಕದು ಕೈಗೆ; ಏನೊ ಕಣ್ಕೆಣಕುವುದು ।
ಸಂದಿಯವೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಗತಿ! - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೪೪ ॥

ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳು ಮಂದವಾಗಿವೆ. ಒಂದು ವಿಶಾಲವಾದ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ನಮಗೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ನಮ್ಮ ಆಲೋಚನೆಗಳು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಸಂಜೆಗತ್ತಲಂತೆ ಮಸುಕುಮಸುಕಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ನಾವು ನಡೆಸುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನದ ಪಥವು ಸಹ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟತೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಮಸುಕಾಗಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಅಪೇಕ್ಷೆಗಳು ನಮಗೇ ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿಲ್ಲ. ಸರಿಯಾದ ವಸ್ತು ಇನ್ನೇನು ಸಿಕ್ಕಿತು ಎನ್ನುವ ವೇಳೆಗೆ, ನಮ್ಮ ಕಣ್ಣು ಅನ್ಯ ವಸ್ತುವಿನಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ವಿಚಲಿತಗೊಳಿಸಿ, ಸಂದೇಹ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂದಿಗ್ಧಕ್ಕೆ ತಳ್ಳಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಈ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಅಂತರ್ಯ.

Our eyesight is poor. It can not see too far. In this poor blurred vision we take some guesses and lead our lives. We do not get anything in our hand. But little flashes of light tantalize our eyes. Is guessing and groping in poor vision our ultimate fate? [Translator's note: Our senses are limited. There is much more in this universe that we can not pickup with our eyes or the machines we build. Our knowledge about the universe is though these senses and hence only limited. We never have felt anything as-is and what we think we see/hear/feel are all some educated guesses.] - Mankutimma

ಬೆಂಕಿಯುಂಡೆಯ ಬೆಳಕು ಬೆಣ್ಣೆಯುಂಡೆಯ ಬೆಳಕು ।
ಮಂಕುವಿಡಿಸಲು ಸಾಕು ಮಣ್ಣುಂಡೆ ಕಣ್ಗೆ ॥
ಶಂಕೆಗೆಡೆಯಿರದು ಕತ್ತಲೆಯೆ ಜಗವನು ಕವಿಯೆ ।
ಬೊಂಕುದೀವಿಗೆ ತಂಟೆ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೪೫ ॥

ಸೂರ್ಯನ ಬೆಳಕಗಾಲೀ ಅಥವಾ ಚಂದ್ರನ ಬೆಳಕಗಾಲೀ ಅಥವಾ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಹಣತೆಯಾದರೂ ಸಹ ನಮಗೆ ನೋಡಲು ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕತ್ತಲೆ ಆವರಿಸಿದರೆ, ನೋಡುವ ಪ್ರಶ್ನೆಯೇ ಬರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದರೆ ಒಂದು ಅರ್ದಂಬರ್ದವಾಗಿ ಕತ್ತಲೆ ಬೆಳಕಿನಾಟ ಕೇವಲ ತೊಂದರೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಸೂಚ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ಗಹನವಾದ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಾರೆ, ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು.

A ball of fire has light. So does a ball of butter. One is hot, one is cold. Eyes can not differentiate between the two. A simple ball of clay moulded into any shape is enough to decieve the eyes. The whole world is in darkness people will run to even a small lamp for light however inadequate it may be. After that, they will have no doubt that what ever they see in that low light is real. [Translator's note: More stress is laid on how limitted our senses are. Also it shows how we get comfortable with what we understand and believe it to be true.] - Mankutimma

ಇರಲಿ ಜೀವರಹಸ್ಯವರೆಪರದೆಯೊಳಗಡಗಿ ।
ಅರಸಿ ವರಿಸುವರಾರು ಬೀದಿಬತ್ತಲಿಯ? ॥
ಅರಳಿಪುದದಡಗಿರ್ದೊಡಾಗ ನಮ್ಮದೆಗಣ್ಣ ।
ಸುರಸತೆಯ ಕುತುಕದಿಂ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೪೬ ॥

ಈ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯ ರಹಸ್ಯವು ತನ್ನ ನಿಜರೂಪವ ತೋರದೆ, ಒಂದು ಮಸುಕಾದ ಪರದೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಅಡಗಿದ್ದರೆ ಇರಲಿ. ನಮಗೆ ನಿಜವಾದ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬೇಕಾದ ವಸ್ತು ಹೀಗೆ ಅಡಗಿ ಕುಳಿತ್ತಿದ್ದರೆ, ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹೋಗುವ ಓರ್ವ ಹುಚ್ಚಿಯನ್ನು ಯಾರಾದರೂ ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗಿ ಹೇಗೆ ವರಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಹಾಗೆ, ನಮ್ಮ ಅಂತಃಚಕ್ಷು ಕಾತರದಿಂದ ಅದನ್ನು ಅರಿಯಲು ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನನ್ನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Let the mystery of life be concealed behind a translucent veil - only barely visible. Will any one willingly marry a brinde who walks around naked on streets. People will not respect something that is easily accessible. Only when the mystery blooms in hiding does it tantalize our hearts with curiosity. - Mankutimma

ಅರೆಗಣ್ಣು ನಮದೆಂದು ಕೊರಕೊರಗಿ ಫಲವೇನು? ।
ಅರೆಬೆಳಕು ಧರೆಯೊಳೆಂದೊರಲಿ ಸುಖವೇನು? ॥
ಇರುವ ಕಣ್ಣಿರುವ ಬೆಳಕಿನೊಳಾದನಿತ ನೋಡಿ ।
ಪರಿಕಿಸಿದೊಡದು ಲಾಭ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೪೭ ॥

ನಮಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವುದು ಅರೆ ಬರೆ. ಈ ಅರೆ ಬರೆ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ನಾವು ಪೂರ್ಣ ಸತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಪಡೆಯುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ ಎಂದು ಗೋಳಾಡದೆ ಇರುವ ಅರಿವಿನಿಂದ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಪಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಪ್ರಯತ್ನಿಸಿದರೆ ಅದು ಲಾಭಧಾಯಕವೆನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಶ್ರೀ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು. ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಯಾವುದೇ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ದಿನದ ಅರ್ಧಭಾಗ ಬೆಳಕು ಇನ್ನರ್ಧಭಾಗ ಕತ್ತಲು. ಬೆಳಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ನಮ್ಮ ಕೆಲಸ ಕಾರ್ಯಗಳು ಮಾಡುವಹಾಗೆ, ಇರುವ ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಿದರೆ ಲಾಭ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು.

What is the use of lamenting that our eyes are not capable of seeing the complete truth? What is the use of bemoaning that light in this world is not sufficient? It is best if we try to see whatever is visible in whatever light is available. - Mankutimma

ಒಂದಿಹುದುಪಾಯವೋರೊರ್ವನರೆಗಣ್ಣುಗಳು ।
ಮೊಂದೊಂದು ಸತ್ಯಾಂಶಕಿರಣಗಳ ಪಿಡಿದು ॥
ಒಂದುಗೂಡಿದೊಡವರ್ಗಳರಿವನೆಲ್ಲವನಾಗ ।
ಮುಂದು ಸಾಗುವೆವಿನಿತು - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೪೮ ॥

ಎಲ್ಲರಲ್ಲೂ ಅವರವರ ಭಾವಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಅಲ್ಪ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜ್ಞಾನವಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಜ್ಞಾನಶೂನ್ಯ ಎಂಬುವವನು ಇರಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗೆ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಇರುವ ಅಲ್ಪಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಜ್ಞಾನಗಳನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ, ಎಲ್ಲರ ಮನದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸತ್ಯವಾದ ವಿಚಾರಗಳನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಕಡೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಮತವೆ ಉತ್ತಮವಾದದ್ದು ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆ ತೊರೆದು ಒಮ್ಮತದಿಂದ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋದರೆ, ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಪರಮಸತ್ಯವನ್ನರಿಯುವ ಹಾದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಮುಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗಬಹುದು ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಈ ಕಗ್ಗದ ಮೂಲಕ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರ ಪ್ರಸ್ತಾಪ.

Each of us can see some thing from what ever poor vision that we have. They are different incomplete versions of the truth. But we need not be disheartened. If we can unite all the different incomplete vision (which are all truths by themselves), we may get to know the real truth. - Mankutimma
