ಮಗುವಾಗಿ ಬೊಂಬೆಗೆಂದತ್ತು ಪಿರಿಯರ ಕಾಡಿ ।
ಜಗದುಣಿಸುಗಳನುಂಡು ಬೆಳೆದವಂ ತಾನೆ ॥
ಮಗುಗಳನು ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತ ಮೆನೆಯನಾಳುವವೋಲು ।
ಜಗವನಾಳ್ವನು ಜಾಣ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೦೯ ॥
ಮಗುವಾಗಿದ್ದಾಗ ಬೊಂಬೆಗಾಗಿ, ಹಿರಿಯರನ್ನು ಕಾಡಿ, ಅತ್ತು, ಗೋಳಾಡಿ ಹಾಗೆ ಪಡೆದದ್ದನ್ನು, ಅನುಭವಿಸಿ, ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟು ಬೆಳೆದ ತಾನೇ , ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಸುತ್ತಾ, ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿರಿಯನಾಗಿ, ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ಆಳುವವನಂತೆ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತನ್ನು ಆಳುವವನು, ಜಾಣ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು.
When one is still a child, he would cry and pester the elders for a doll. In time, he grows up savoring all the worldly experiences and becomes wise and responsible. He will have his children to bring up - who will now cry and pester for dolls. He will handle them with a fatherly hat - doing what is best in the child's interest. If one also behaves the same way with the world (understanding and fatherly) then he is really wise. - Mankutimma

ಭೂಮಿಪತಿಪಟ್ಟವನು ಜನ ತನಗೆ ಕಟ್ಟಲ್ ॥
ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯದಿಂದವರನಾಳ್ದ ಲಿಂಕನನಂತೆ ।
ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ಲೋಕಕೆ ಯೋಗಿ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೧೦ ॥
ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು, ೧೮೬೧-೬೫ ರ ನಡುವೆ ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ದೇಶದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷನಾಗಿದ್ದ ‘ಅಬ್ರಹಾಂ ಲಿಂಕನ್’ ನ ವಿಚಾರವನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಹೇಗೆ ಅವನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯರಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ, ಬೆಳದು ತನ್ನ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯ, ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥರಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ತ್ಯಾಗದಿಂದ, ಭೂಮಿಪತಿ ಪಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಏರಿದ, ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ ಅಂತಹವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಯೋಗ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ ಲೋಕಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯಂತಾಗುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ರಣದಿ ಬಿದ್ದಾ ನೈನ್ಯಪತಿ ಸಿಡ್ನಿಯುತ್ಕ್ರಮಣ- ।
ದೊಣಗುಬಾಯಿಗೆ ನೀರ್ನೊಡ್ಡಲ್ ಅದನವನು ॥
ತನಗಿಂತ ಕೆಲದ ಭಟಗದು ಸಲ್ವುದೆಂದಿತ್ತು ।
ತಣಿವನಾಂತುದ ನೆನೆಯೊ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೧೧ ॥
ರಣರಂಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದ ಸೈನ್ಯಾಧಿಪತಿ ‘ಸಿಡ್ನಿ’ಗೆ ಬಾಯಾರಿದಾಗ, ಅವನ ಸೇವಕ ಅವನಿಗೆ ನೀರನ್ನು ನೀಡಲು ಬಂದಾಗ, ಅವನು ತನಗಿಂತ, ತನ್ನ ಕೈಕೆಳಗೆ ಹೋರಾಡುವ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯ ಸೈನಿಕನಿಗೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬಾಯಾರಿಕೆಯಾಗಿ ಅವನಿಗೆ ಆ ನೀರಿನ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ಇರಬಹುದೆಂದು, ಆ ನೀರನ್ನು ಅವನಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ನೀನೂ ಸಹ ಆ ರೀತಿ ನೀಡಿ ಸಂತಸಪಡು ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.

On his death bed, in spite of being very thirsty he refused to take water telling that another soldier lying next to him need it more than him. He derived satisfaction from the uncompromising practice of morality. ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳೊಳು ಬಾಳಿ ಜೀವ ಪಕ್ವಂಗೊಳ್ಳ- ।
ಲಿಂದ್ರಿಯಂಗಳ ಮೀರಿ ಮೇಲೇರಿ ಜಾಣಿಂ- ॥
ದಿಂದ್ರಿಯಂಗಳನಾಳಿ ಲೋಕವಂ ಸಂತಯಿಪ ।
ಬಂಧು ಜೀವನ್ಮುಕ್ತ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೧೨ ॥
ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಅನುಭವಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದು, ಬದುಕಿನ ಅನುಭವಗಳಿಂದ ಪಕ್ವವಾಗಿ, ಆ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳು ನೀಡುವ ಸುಖಗಳ ಅಪೇಕ್ಷೆಯನ್ನು ತೊರೆದು, ಅಂತರಂಗದಿಂದ ಬೆಳೆದು ಮೇಲೆ ಏರಿ, ಜಾಣತನದಿಂದ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳನ್ನು ಹತೋಟಿಗೆ ತಂದುಕೊಂಡು, ಅನ್ಯರ, ಎಂದರೆ ಇನ್ನೂ ಇಂದ್ರಿಯಗಳ ಸುಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವವರನ್ನು ಸಂತೈಸುವ ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿದರೆ ಅವನೇ ‘ಜೀವನ್ಮುಕ್ತ ‘ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
One has to live in this world known to his senses and get all teh experiences he can. Then he has to reach out to (think about) entities that are extra sensory - God, Universe, etc.. Once he has a handle on that, then he can control his own senses and create happiness in this world. Such a wise person will attain salvation from the endless cycle of births. - Mankutimma

ವಿಸ್ತಾರದಲಿ ಬಾಳು, ವೈಶಾಲ್ಯದಿಂ ಬಾಳು ।
ಕತ್ತಲೆಯ ಮೊಡುಕು ಮೂಲೆಗಳ ಸೇರದಿರು ॥
ಭಾಸ್ಕರನನುಗ್ರಹವೆ ನೂತ್ನ ಜೀವನಸತ್ತ್ವ ।
ಮೃತ್ಯು ನಿನಗಲ್ಪತೆಯೊ - ಮಂಕುತಿಮ್ಮ ॥ ೯೧೩ ॥
ವಿಸ್ತಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಾಳು, ವೈಶಾಲ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ ಬದುಕು, ಅಜ್ಞಾನದಿಂದ ಜಗತ್ತಿನ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ತೊರೆದು ಮೂಲೆ ಸೇರದಿರು. ಬೆಳಕನ್ನೇ ತೋರುವ ಆ ಭಾಸ್ಕರನ ಅನುಗ್ರಹದಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನವನವೀನವಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತೆ ಬದುಕಿನ ಉತ್ಸಾಹವನ್ನು ತುಂಬಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಂದು ವಿಸ್ತಾರವಾದ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಸಾವು’ ಎನ್ನುವುದು ಒಂದು ತೀರ ‘ಗೌಣ’ ವಾದ ವಿಷಯ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ತಿಳಿ, ಎನ್ನುವ ಸಂದೇಶವನ್ನು ನೀಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಗುಂಡಪ್ಪನವರು ಈ ಮುಕ್ತಕದಲ್ಲಿ.
Try to get as varied experience as possible. Learn about a lot of things in this world. Life magnanimously. Don't isolate yourself and live in dark corners and edges. Expose yourself to the world. The Sun will infuse freshness and life into this world. Be a part of it. When you do so, death will just be a small matter to you. - Mankutimma
